Lindsey Landfried, one of Mississippi Modern's sponsored artists, opens an exhibition of work at the Wade Cullis Depot Gallery at Mississippi State University this week.

Feed.Back.Loop is a body of work comprised of drawings on folded paper. Landfried uses a single repetitious, looping mark to compose her work, both monumental and minute. This mark-making is indicative of mechanical and binary code patterns but also elicits a movement that is organic and nuanced, oscillating between static and chaotic states. The effect comes from the combination of micro and macro perspectives, shifting from the soft fields of color from a distance to disorientation at close range.

Adding to these layers in the work is the folded paper, forcing the space of drawings into the physical space of the gallery. The simple plane of the picture plane and gallery space is disrupted by the angular folds and additional dimensions in all but the small paintings on wood panel. These small works are more intimate and invite the viewer to look closer but maintain a mediative quality that the larger pieces lose at the same distance. The exhibition in its entirety shows a wide range of exploration in line, space and concept with simple elements, creating complexity with eloquence.

The reception for Feed.Back.Loop is Thursday, January 23, 5-7pm and the exhibition is through March 7, 2014. The Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m on the second floor of the MSU Welcome Center. The show was made possible by a Starkville Area Arts Council Grant and Mississippi Arts Council Grant.
